"THE DESTROYED ROOM: B-SIDES AND RARITIES" AVAILABLE NOW
The Destroyed Room: B-sides And Rarities, a band-chosen collection of near-hidden Sonic Youth gems, is now available on Geffen Records. The album brings together songs from throughout the band's career with Geffen, focusing on tracks previously available only on vinyl, limited-release compilations, or as b-sides to international singles. The tracks were hand picked by the band and also include material that has never before been released. Complete tracklist and more info here. A double vinyl LP edition will be released in early March 2007 on the band's own Goofin' Records label. The vinyl features two bonus tracks: 'Doctor's Orders (T vox)' and 'Is it my Body?'
NEW SONIC YOUTH SHOWS - E.COAST, MEXICO, JAPAN, COACHELLA
Sonic Youth makes their first announcement of dates for 2007: February 14 at the Academy of Music in Northampton,MA w/ guests Awesome Color and Wooden Wand, February 15 in New Haven, CT at Toad's Place, February 16 at Webster Hall in NYC, February 17 in Providence, RI at Lupo's, February 18 in Burlington, VT at Higher Ground and two special shows in Mexico - February 23 in Guadalahara and February 24 in Mexico City. Later in April 2007 SY travels to Japan for three dates with the tremendous Vooredoms. Returning to the USA the band will perform April 27 at Coachella. Info here. RATHER RIPPED VIDEOS
Seven videos for four songs from SY's latest 'Rather Ripped' are now available for viewing on the sy.com video page. Director Braden King brings videos for 'Do You Believe in Rapture?' and 'Reena' from footage shot at CBGB's this summer. Director Claire Denis offers a video for 'Incinerate' and 4 alternate videos for 'Jams Run Free.' Enjoy.

DAYDREAM NATION 33 1/3
After delays, a real-deal release date has finally been set for Matthew Stearnes' installment on Daydream Nation for Continuum Books' 33 and 1/3 series. In March of '07, you'll be able to find bound copies of the volume in unsucky book and record shops across the land, and through various online channels. In the meantime, an excerpt from the book has been posted on the series' blog.

DAYDREAM NATION HONORED BY LIBRARY OF CONGRESS
Sonic Youth's 1988 album Daydream Nation has been added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. Daydream Nation now joins Emile Berliner's 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' and 'I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man' by Muddy Waters (among other recordings) in the collection mandated by Congress 'to maintain and preserve sound recordings and collections of sound recordings that are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.' DAVE MARKEY ANTHOLOGY
An Anthology of short films and music videos by '1991: The Year Punk Broke' director Dave Markey entitled 'Cut Shorts' will be released June 27, and features much SY-related material as well as tons of other boss stuff. More info at wegotpwerfilms.com.
SONIC YOUTH S/T, CICCONE YOUTH AND PSYCHIC HEARTS RE-ISSUES OUT NOW
Re-issues of 'Sonic Youth', 'The Whitey Album' by Sonic Youth alter-ego Ciccone Youth and Thurston Moore's 'Psychic Hearts' will all be released March 14. All three records feature an updated mastering supervised by the band and Sonic Youth's eponymous record features never-before-heard live and studio tracks and notes by drummer Richard Edson, Neutral record label founder Glenn Branca and Byron Coley. The CD editions of these records will be on Geffen/UMe while the vinyl editions will be on the SY's own Goofin' records. Vinyl of the first record is now available here. (The vinyl edition of Ciccone Youth will be released April 3rd and Psychic Hearts will be released soon after that. The Psychic Hearts 2xLP vinyl edition will contain a full side of bonus tracks not on the CD edition.)
